Cooking and Eating Healthy Food: The Key to a Healthy Body and Feeling Well

While it is on one hand quite obvious that eating healthy food is important to your overall health and wellness, many of our patients tell us that they are so busy they don’t have time to cook homemade healthy meals. Others report they are not really very good cooks and don’t cook at all. Recently Dr. Hausman-Cohen, along with a personal chef, Leah Grace Rizzo taught a healthy easy cooking class series using recipes from hers and Dr. Weston’s kitchens. Below we have posted the recipes we prepared and shared at this class series.

-If you have osteoporosis or high blood pressure, try eating a higher potassium diet, which means lots of fruits and vegetables and dairy.
-If you have blood sugar issues or heart issues try eating more fish and some of the healthier grains like Quinoa and Kasha instead of potatoes or rice (see fish and grain recipes).
-Tofu is also a great lean source of protein that we encourage all to try... and if you have never cooked with It before we have included a “how to guide”.
-If your family is hooked on more “mainstream”  meats, using chicken instead of beef will lower the fat content, and trying out some stir fry recipes allows you to use less meat and more vegetables.
-If you have picky eaters in your family, don’t cater to them, instead prepare healthy meals using lots of new flavors and require them to “try it” and before long they will be expanding their repertoires.

If you have healthy, easy recipes you want to share, email them to us at balcones.reception@gmail.com and we will add them to our collection of recipes to share when we next update.  Bon Apatite!
